About
the Young
Researchers’
Awards

Every one or two years, GERG hosts a competition highlighting the work currently being done by postgraduate students in the field of gas research. These success stories serve to illustrate how a new generation of researchers is working hard on gas as a key enabler of a new decarbonised Energy system.

The European Gas Research Group (GERG) offers Young Researchers’ Awards to early career European researchers who have displayed a commitment to excellence in scientific research and in creating solutions for the future of Energy.

The Young Researchers’ event promotes interaction between European Universities and Research Centres, on R&D topics related to Gas in the Energy system. The key objectives are to encourage a dialogue between industry experts and academia, raise awareness, and enhance cooperation between our different communities.

The 2024 Young Researchers’ Awards

An international competition in the prestigious setting of the European Gas Technology Conference (EGATEC)

The 11th edition of the GERG Young Researchers’ Awards (YRA) took place on the 18th – 19th  June 2024 in Hamburg, Germany, in association with the 6th European Gas Technology Conference 2024  (EGATEC 2024). The event brought together high-level representatives from the European gas industry, universities, companies, and other stakeholders. EGATEC 2024 was organised by MARCOGAZ and GERG and was hosted by the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW), the Danish Gas Technology Centre (DGC), Gasunie and was supported by the European Research Institute for Gas and Energy Innovation (ERIG).

The YRA 2024 turned the spotlight on young scientists committed to driving sustainability and innovation by giving them voice to showcase their work and promoting interaction between European Universities and Research Centres, on R&D topics related to the role of renewable and low carbon gases and gas infrastructure towards the transition to a sustainable energy future.

During the conference, the students had the opportunity to present their posters and discuss with high-level representatives from the European gas industry, universities, companies, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, during the session dedicated to the awards, each of the students gave a pith presentation of their PhD project, evaluated by a jury of senior members of the associations co-organising the conference.

During the award ceremony event at the charming venue of ‘Hard Rock Cafe Hamburg’ the winner was announced, and GERG awarded them prize of 1000€.
